A new era of public transit in British Columbia has arrived and Omicron is proud to have played a key role in bringing BC Transit’s new Whistler Transit Centre to fruition. In support of the Hydrogen Highway initiative utilizing leading fuel cell technology, BC Transit engaged Omicron to provide integrated design and construction services for the new 25,000 sq.ft. facility which is poised to be a showcase for the 2010 Olympics. Whistler’s transit fleet is now one of the greenest in the world.
The Transit Centre includes an administration building, operations building, six maintenance bays, 36 sheltered bus storage shelters, one hydrogen and one diesel fueling station and an automatic hybrid bus wash. Sustainability was a priority for the facility. The design includes a number of environmental enhancements, such as oil and water separators and a bio-filtration pond.
Construction of the $20.4 million facility was completed on schedule and was delivered under budget by $2 million thanks to the commitment of BC Transit management, their project managers Pacific Liaicon and Omicron’s integrated project delivery process.
