Coquitlam’s City Hall, Public Safety Building, and an RCMP detachment were designed together as one entity of civic space, sharing the same use of materials, warm brick and architectural concrete.
The City Hall building houses Council chambers, meeting facilities, administrative facilities, municipal government departments as well as a public library. To take into account changes and growth, the 80,700 sq.ft. office building was designed to accommodate an additional 3 floors.
The Public Safety Building is a 67,800 sq.ft. facility sharing underground parking and support facilities with the City Hall and Public Library building, fronting on to a common public plaza. The building houses an RCMP detachment of 260 officers and related municipal staff, and is closely related to the Emergency Operations Centre in the adjacent City Hall. This large police facility is built to post-disaster standards. The scope of services for this project included facilities program and accommodation review, full architectural design services, civic urban planning, working with Dominion Corporation as project manager, and field services during construction.
