01 AT A GLANCE
The new state-of-the-art 400,000 sq.ft. Fraser Valley Brewery replaces Molson Coors’ iconic brewery at the foot of the Burrard Street bridge in Vancouver, BC.
02 EARLY INVOLVEMENT
Omicron worked closely with Molson Coors from the outset to understand their brewing process. This helped define the parameters of the project, as well as the needs and the size of the new brewery. Not only did this inform the design of the building, but also helped identify the type of property Molson Coors required.
03 COMPLEX DESIGN
The building design celebrates the brewing process, with large windows that offer a glimpse inside the brewery. The large tanks and grain hoppers facing the Trans-Canada Highway add a point of interest for those driving by. Various roof heights and colour panels break down the scale of the building. The building foundation was raised to withstand a 250-year flooding plan.
Molson Coors had high sustainability goals, including energy use reduction by 20% and water by 40% compared to the older brewery, which was factored into the building design. The facility features an efficient CO2 recovery system to reduce emissions significantly.
This is the first project for which we did a VR walkthrough. We created a VR model so the Molson Coors team could easily experience the building and provide feedback. The project involved teams from Germany, Romania, China and Australia, so it was crucial we use a universal platform, which was Navisworks.
