During the early stages of the project a public hearing was held to provide the opportunity for local stakeholders, the City of Burnaby, and surrounding businesses and communities to provide feedback on the preservation and restauration of the heritage building as well as the rehabilitation of its interior and overall site. We made sure the heritage building was conserved in accordance with the City of Burnaby's Conservation Plan. Considering the historic presence of First Nations on the site, they were consulted to discuss appropriate art works as part of the site rehabilitation. The process of commissioning the works is still underway.
In May 2022 Schou Education Centre received a Recognition Award in the Conservation category from Heritage BC . It was acknowledged that the project reflects best practices for heritage in both its structural restoration and revitalization, bringing together past and future.
