Urban school site development.

Stratford Hall Middle School encompasses teaching spaces, a “Learning Commons”, science labs, a high school-sized gymnasium, a rooftop outdoor play area, and associated administration areas. As space was at a premium at this downtown site – as it was for the Primary Years School (PYP) building – we had to “stack” the project vertically to create a model of “eco-density”. The gymnasium is located underground and outdoor play area is on top of the building. Traditional classrooms are replaced by student “Learning Studios” which more closely resemble graduate student seminar rooms. There is a strong emphasis on technology at the school and wireless network connections allow students to share documents and be online anywhere within the building.

“Kevin Hanvey and the team at Omicron deserve full credit for taking our rough ideas and making them real in a way that will sustain for decades. Colleagues who have visited have said, this is exactly what a place for 21st Century learning should look like.”

- Dr. James McConnell – Head of School (Retired), Stratford Hall
