People of Omicron: Meet Natasha

To commemorate International Youth Day, today’s feature spotlight is our returning student technologist, Natasha Louie.

What is your position at Omicron?

My position at Omicron is a Student Technologist. I am currently going into my last year of studies at the University of Calgary for a Master’s of Architecture Degree.

What led you to the student intern program?

The integrated workflow and organization at Omicron got my attention, as it provides the opportunity to learn about my field and the others that are directly related. Omicron’s unique culture also stood out to me, as we participate and fundraise in our community.

What one story about your childhood best explains the person you are today?

I spent my high school years attending Burnaby Central School, a newly built school designed by a couple of Omicron architects. The building inspired me, and I realized how much space and environment can influence learning. I started taking drafting and art courses, and by grade 9 I knew I wanted to be an architect. During my first summer with Omicron, I had the opportunity to work with one of the school’s architects on another school project. It was indeed a full-circle moment.

What skills do you want to gain from this experience, and what skills can you offer the organization?

I want to gain integrated industry experience, as knowing how to work in other areas of design and construction will be beneficial to my career. I can offer a balanced perspective, based on the design and technical knowledge I gained during my undergrad in Architectural Science at BCIT. My strengths also lie in meticulous organization and my ability to collaborate with others.

What advice do you have for other students considering an internship at Omicron?

I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about holistic and systematic approaches to design and construction. Omicron is an excellent company with a friendly and inclusive work culture.
